What did God do to bring Israel out of Egypt as a nation? The steps were basically these:

1. Every family had to take a lamb for itself and examine it for four days

Exodus 12:3 Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house:
4 And if the household be too little for the lamb, let him and his neighbour next unto his house take it according to the number of the souls; every man according to his eating shall make your count for the lamb.
5 Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats:

2. The lambs was then slain by the entire community and its blood placed on the three posts of the house

Exodus 12:6 And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening.
7 And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it.

3. They were to remove all leaven from their house and only eat unleavened bread for seven days.

Exodus 12:15 Seven days shall ye eat unleavened bread; even the first day ye shall put away leaven out of your houses: for whosoever eateth leavened bread from the first day until the seventh day, that soul shall be cut off from Israel. . . . 20 Ye shall eat nothing leavened; in all your habitations shall ye eat unleavened bread.

4. They were to eat the lamb "with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is the LORD'S passover."

Exodus 12:11 And thus shall ye eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is the LORD'S passover.

5. The Lord would pass through Egypt and smite the firstborn of any house where He did not see the blood on the doorposts of the house.

Exodus 12:12 For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD.
13 And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.

6. All Israel would be gathered into one body from their houses and come out Egypt as God's nation.

Exodus 19:6 And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests, and an holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.

When Jesus came, He fulfilled the sacrifical aspects of Passover:

1. Jesus entered Jerusalem on a donkey five days before Passover and examined for four days. Pilate declared he found nothing in Him and Israel cried to have Him crucified:

John 12:12 On the next day much people that were come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,
13 Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord.
14 And Jesus, when he had found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written,
15 Fear not, daughter of Sion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass's colt.

John 19:6 When the chief priests therefore and officers saw him, they cried out, saying, Crucify him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Take ye him, and crucify him: for I find no fault in him.

2. Jesus was slain after four days of "inspection," dying for the whole nation:

John 11:49 And one of them, named Caiaphas, being the high priest that same year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all,
50 Nor consider that it is expedient for us, that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.
51 And this spake he not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for that nation;
52 And not for that nation only, but that also he should gather together in one the children of God that were scattered abroad.

John 18:14 Now Caiaphas was he, which gave counsel to the Jews, that it was expedient that one man should die for the people.

John 19:17 And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha:
18 Where they crucified him, and two others with him, on either side one, and Jesus in the midst.

3. They were to remove all leaven from their house

Luke 12:1 . . . he began to say unto his disciples first of all, Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. (See also Matthew 23)

Instead of cleaning out the leaven of the Pharisees in themselves, most of the nation remained as they were and and instead of repentence, crucified Him.

4. They were to eat the lamb "with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is the LORD'S passover."

It is interesting that in Revelation, Jerusalem is spiritually called Egypt:

Revelation 11:8 And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified.

The Lamb was slain in Jerusalem, or, what John the Revelator spiritually called "Egypt." God would bring about the next phase of His plan to gather to Himself a people, to gather a "nation" out of a nation (see Part 1), to take to Himself a people out of spiritual "Egypt":

Hebrews 8:10 For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people:

In the midst of this house of Israel, Rome would set up a door (the cross), Israel would place the blood on that door by crucifying the Lamb of God, and all in Israel who believed on Him would enter into the house of God (My people in Christ) and take refuge:

All who would not forsake the leaven of the Pharisees and enter into this house through the blood of Christ would be cut off, as Moses had said, just as in Egypt. Its important to state that all of Israel was not "cut off" for some did enter as God had commanded through faith in the words and finished work of Jesus. Out of spiritual "Egypt" came a remnant, and under the New Covenant, "a people" through the Jesus' Passover:

1 Corinthians 5:7 Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us:
8 Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.

5. All those not believing on Him were cut off (though Israel itself was not cut off) and the gathering of God's holy nation was furthered.

In Egypt of old, the sword struck all who were not under the blood. In "Egypt" of Jesus' day, the same occurred as the kingdom was taken from the leaders of that time and given to those within Israel who followed Christ. They would come out of spiritual "Egypt" and the door posted on Calvary would open the door to heavenly Jerusalem:

Hebrews 12:22 But ye are come unto mount Sion, and unto the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to an innumerable company of angels,
23 To the general assembly and church of the firstborn, which are written in heaven, and to God the Judge of all, and to the spirits of just men made perfect,
24 And to Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling, that speaketh better things than that of Abel.
25 See that ye refuse not him that speaketh. For if they escaped not who refused him that spake on earth, much more shall not we escape, if we turn away from him that speaketh from heaven:

6. The gathering of God's holy nation continues through this day through the sharing of the gospel:

Matthew 23:37 O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not!
38 Behold, your house is left unto you desolate.

Mark 13:10 And the gospel must first be published among all nations.

The blood-splattered door (Jesus) is still there today for all to enter, to rid themselves of the leaven in their lives while they wait for the promise of His coming. Jesus had fulfilled all the sacrifices of Passover to establish the New Covenant, and He will also fulfill the coming of God's wrath on all who have not partaken or won't partake of the Lamb slain for their deliverance.
